African Elephant

African Forest Elephants mainly live in central and southern Africa, wandering their habitat in search of food and watering holes. The African Forest Elephant is one of two Elephant species found on the African continent. Among the largest land mammals, elephants are classified as ‘endangered’ due to a population reduction of greater than 50% over the past three generations. Illegal poaching of elephants for their ivory tusks still occurs in several African countries, but has reduced due to many recovery efforts.
