The Chinese call the panda, Beishung, the White Bear. Due to the panda’s reclusive nature, little is known about their habits in the wild. It was first thought that they lived solely on bamboo shoots, but it is now apparent that they eat a variety of grasses, irises, crocuses and even small animals, such as rodents, small birds and fish. Only recently has the panda been bred in captivity; this is still a very rare occurrence.
