Pigs were believed to be domesticated as early as 9,000 BC from the wild boar, found in the forests of Asia and Europe. The domestic pig is farmed in large numbers around the world, mostly for the large variety of meats that come from it. It is also often kept as a pet in homes with plenty of space or on farms. Pigs can be quiet and relatively clean animals when kept in the right conditions.
