Shetland Sheepdog - PART ONLY

If you took the longhaired Collie – the breed made famous by the 50’s TV show Lassie - and shrunk it in size by half, you would have what is now known as a Shetland Sheepdog, or ‘Sheltie.’ This is not how Shelties were truly created; however; rather they first originated from the Shetland Islands, where scarcity of food favors smaller hunters. Agile and enthusiastic herders at heart, Shelties make great companions for small children due to their size and love other dogs, but are weary of strangers.
